Well~ Finished another assignment: the final of the advice poster :]
I had been wanting to Photoshop to really polish a picture for a LONGGG time now. I had tried once, but it didn't turn out well (to be honest, my drawing sucked in the first place so it was already an epic fail). Now that I am better at drawing, I wanted to try again and see how it would go, and TA DA~ This is what I got. Though it isn't the best that's ever been completed in the history, it was pretty good considering it was a first real attempt ( > U<)b
So, this drawing was really FFXIII inspired; mainly it being inspired from the character Lightning. I have always liked the advice of "sucking it up and dealing with it" and "walking with confidence, even when it's rough." I've really learned these lesson from running in cross country, as cheesy as it sounds. Cross Country really taught (and still teaches me) to keep going even when it's rough. I mean, that's the essence of distance running, really.
Anywho, back to the drawing. As previously said, this drawing was inspired by Lightning from FF13. When I thought about confidence, I thought of her immediately. I love her outfit, her personality; I essentially just love her (not in that weird creepy way, more like awe for her)... even though I haven't played the game yet. :'pp But I've definitely researched the game and such~
I also love her hair style. I think it's so cool and... simply awesome. If I could pull it off, I would totally get that hair style.
And it took about 9-10 hours to outline, color, and shade the image on Photoshop. I just outlined the picture on paper and cleaned it up on Photoshop and went from there. Sadly, my shading isn't super obvious which kinda sucks since I spent a while working on it. But it's there!!
So, I gave my girl crazy pink hair, cool side belt accessory, and other little details that referred back to FF13 and even KH. How cool is that?
I am really happy about how it came out. I had a previous idea that was ok, and I just kept building from there and this is what I got. I really like the final results. :]

First of all, I love the background, the lettering and the pink splotches. I absolutely adore the colors (all the greens and pinks)!!
ReplyDeleteLightning is awesome. FF13 is spectacular. Personally, I like Hope. He is a bit of a weakling but super adorable!
I have a suggestion I would like to make, and I think you would like how your piece looks more. However, I cannot post the image I want to post to help describe to you what you could do to help it. I know, this was a lot of work and you probably want to be done with this, but please, just trust me on this. I will post my suggestion as a blog post, and delete it once you comment it.
If you do not want to mess with it however, that is totally fine, I really think you will like it better though.
It essentially involves moving the ear and hair a little bit.
Here is my suggestion: http://ashdemo.blogspot.com/2011/07/suggestion-for-clare.html
ReplyDeleteI totally understand if you are done messing with it though and/or do not like my suggestion.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I haven't played FF13 yet, so I don't know much about the other characters. But yeah, just from watching the trailers and seeing all these cool poses of her in pictures, I just love her~ > U<
ReplyDeleteAh, I forgot about the ear. I think after a while I simply got used to it. :'pp
But I definitely know what you're talking about. I usually have the ear hiding behind the hair so this was a first time of showing the ear. I didn't really know how to fix it, so I just left it. Now that you bring it back up, I can't help but to keep staring at it :'D
Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! I was having some issues with that darn ear. I hope that I'll gather enough motivation to fix it cause it's really bugging me now. :]
I'll see what I can do about the ear! I hope that it can just be a simple fix!!

I would hope that it's just a simple quick fix since you are pretty much just moving things over a little, but I hope it doesn't throw off your lettering in the background or anything-you would have to adjust that too...
ReplyDeleteIt will be worth the effort though, trust me.
Make sure you post the upgraded version when you are done!
Great use of pink. Larger, bigger quantity in the bottom is balanced by three smaller pink areas on top. Nice complimentary color scheme: red and green. Eyes are usually a focal point, so the gaze goes to the pink splotches, which lead the eyes to the hair, then text, then the braid takes the eyes down the pink on the bottom finishes it off. Very nice flow. Fix the ear though. Unfortunately, not going to be easy...
